General
design features of the Pro-TR
 |
Near Infra-red analyzer with network monochromator |
 |
Works between 730 and 1100 Nm.
Possible resolution to 0.5 Nm. Current use limited
to between 850 and 1050 Nm, with resolution to 2
Nm. |
 |
The apparatus runs under Windows 98 which is preinstalled
on the instrument. |
 |
Touch screen operation. |
 |
Optional Hectoliter Weight module. |
|
 |
Calibrations available:
The apparatus is provided, as standard, with 3 adapters
(change in 5 secs) for analysis of:
 |
Small seeds: Oil seed rape etc |
 |
Average seeds: Wheat, barley, rye, oats etc |
 |
Large seeds: Maize, Pea, Soya etc |
Type of chemical components or qualitative criteria
measurable
All major chemical components, in particular protein, fat
content, water & starch.
For qualitative work, the Pro-TR can be calibrated to read
(with limited precision), certain values like W, the Index
of Elasticity (IE), wet gluten etc
Calibrations available to date, and forecast for
the 6 next months

The required calibrations are entered on the apparatus prior
to shipment, or can be downloaded later via the standard modem
fitted to all Pro-TR’s.

Storage, treatment and transfer of results
The results of all analyses are saved to the internal database
together with any additional information entered into the
comments box during an analysis.
Storage: The results of the analyses (including NIR spectra)
are stored in chronological order in a scrollable table visible
on the instrument screen.
It is possible to recall individually every measurement taken
and:
 |
add or modify a comment. |
 |
look at the spectrum produced for that sample |
 |
look at the detail of sub samples used to calculate
a specific reading |
 |
check the calibration used and any biases or skews applied
|
Treatment: At any moment the operator can
select by seed type and calendar period a set of results.
The average of all these measurements can then be calculated
or standard deviation or repeatability investigated.
Transfer: All results recorded on the Pro-TR
can be easily transferred under Excel, Lotus etc by direct
connection, by diskette or by modem.
The apparatus can be also to be interrogated remotely via
the integral modem (using a preinstalled version of PC Anywhere)
and readings transferred.
Use of a bar-code reader
A barcode reader can be connected in parallel to, or instead
of, the keyboard.
As the bar code is read this triggers the Pro-TR to start
its measurement cycle.
In summary, the Pro-TR has a number of advantages
over similar equipment:
 |
Speed of measurement |
 |
Very easy to use – no training required |
 |
Easy data storage and manipulation. Can all be done
from the screen of the instrument |
 |
Comes ready calibrated with full calibration support
via integral modem |
 |
Excellent repeatability & stability of measurement |
 |
Ideal for use in a network system |
 |
Optional Hectoliter weight module which can be used
independently of Pro-TR if required |
 |
Optional barcode reader |
