Moisture Meter Tips
Most problems encountered by moisture meters can be cured for very low cost and can potentially save you hundreds of pounds of charges. We have collected the following range of tips and hints from everybody in the company from the service department to the sales team, our expertise can help you get the best out of your instrument.
- When using the AP6060 always make use of the loading hopper, this ensures that the sample is loaded consistently each time which can help to give you consistent readings each time. For best results also ensure that the sample is level in the cell before testing.
- Annual calibration is important, especially for users that are members of crop assurance schemes. Calibration can be achieved at one of our certified moisture clinics, by booking your instrument in with us for a service or for AP6060 and GrainPro users by using the MCal Calibration Software (contact us for more information).
- Test your instrument regularly with a certified calibration sample (part number 19006352, contact us to place an order).
- Ensure your instrument is kept clean, dust and dirt can affect the accuracy of measurements and can significantly reduce the lifespan of the instrument.
- Try to test samples at roughly the same temperature as the instrument, all Sinar instruments employ temperature correction but rapidly changing temperature can affect the accuracy of readings.
- When testing hot grain from a drier spread the sample over a metal tray for a minute or two to allow it to cool, this will prevent the changing temperature from affecting the readings.
- The AP6060 has a facility to perform a quick automatic calibration check, simply turn the instrument on and press the Cal/Auto button. The instrument will take an empty reading and display an “A” followed by three numbers, anything other than “A000” indicates that an error has been found. If this happens, contact our service department for advice.
- When transporting the AP6060 always ensure that you use the weight balance retainer to protect the weight balance.
- Moisture meters are sensitive electrical equipment and therefore should be stored in a cool dry place.
- When using the GrainSpear be sure to insert it straight in to the heap and pull it straight out, pressure to one side can damage the sensor and cause inaccurate readings.
