It does this by speeding up a reaction that occurs when the Hydrogen creating enzymes, which occur naturally in grains, come into contact with a Tetrazolium salt solution. The Tetrazolium solution is placed in the reaction vessel, which is then kept at a reduced pressure and a constant temperature.

When a germ capable of sustaining germination comes into contact with the solution a colour change occurs which stains the germ light red. By examining the grains it can be determined which seeds are viable or, what the germinative capacity of the sample is.

When compared to the traditional methods of analysis the Sinar 7010 GermPro accelerates the testing process from hours to minutes.
